A&E    Nearest Hospitals with a casualty department

For serious accidents which require emergency treatment, always call an ambulance;  dial 112 or 999 and give the address and postcode of Parkwood Scout Campsite, Henfield Road, Poynings, Brighton, East Sussex BN45 7BA.

Make certain that both gates are open and send someone to meet the Ambulance, and direct the Ambulance crew to the location of the casualty.

For less serious injuries where there is not the same degree of urgency and the injured person can be moved, there are two A&E units to choose from.

The Princess Royal at Haywards Heath is slightly further away but the route is more straightforward and experience suggests that the waiting time for treatment is usually shorter than in Brighton.

Royal Sussex County Hospital: there are two A&E services in Brighton; the main A&E Unit (Eastern Road and Bristol Gate) and a specialist children’s A&E Unit at ‘the Alex’ – Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital, both are part of the Royal Sussex County Hospital.   If a young person has a known condition it may be prudent to take them to the Royal Sussex in Brighton, from where they can quickly be referred to the Children’s Hospital if necessary.

Details of both hospitals, and the routes, are shown below.

If you are not familiar with the area, this is probably the best A&E to use,  and is the most straightforward route:
Right out of campsite; turn right at the Ginger Fox (where A281 road turns sharp left);  Continue past Golf Course to B2118 on left; head north and join the A23 at Hickstead; A23 north; take slip-road to A272, turning left at the T junction at the end of the slip road; then follow A272 eastbound through Haywards Heath; first exit at Roundabout into B2272; left at the next roundabout into the Hospital.
